Conor McGregor and his return to the Octagon has once again been pushed forward as Dana White issues an update on the former two division world champion.
The Irishman who hasn’t competed since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021 was set to make his return to the cage in June but Dana White is hoping that McGregor is cleared to fit in autumn or later on in the year
McGregor who transformed the UFC into a global sport with his trash talking and goading of opponents hasn’t fought on a regular basis since his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
Dana White Sheds Light on Potential Conor McGregor Return
Speaking on the Pat McAfee show Dana White spoke about a potential McGregor and Michael Chandler fight in 2024 and said; “Hopefully this year. There is no date.
“I’m hoping for the fall, [hopefully] we get it done in the fall.”
It’s been one year since the UFC announced the fight, but since then no location, date or weight division has been released by the UFC casting further doubt if the fight will even take place at this point.
Frustration for McGregor
McGregor released a video on X (formerly Twitter) stating his comeback would take place in Las Vegas on the 29th June. Since that announcement The UFC failed to comment on the announcement made by the Irishman.
This announcement is the latest disappointment for fight fans as it was revealed that McGregor has left the USADA testing pool and that the former two division champion needed more time to heal from his injury.
What Next for Michael Chandler?
The American has waited for a long time for McGregor’s return and this is just the latest setback Chandler has sat in his anticipated fight against McGregor. The pair who coached in the Ultimate Fighter Season in 2023 were due to fight in June at 185 pounds as revealed by McGregor himself.
Chandler’s last UFC fight was in 2022 where he was submitted by Poirier and since then the American has waited patiently for McGregor’s return. With this announcement by Dana White it could almost two years since Chandler last entered the Octagon.
