UFC CEO Dana White recently addressed the absence of Henry Cejudo from the post-fight microphone at UFC 298. Cejudo’s clash with Merab Dvalishvili ended with Cejudo removing his gloves promptly, sparking speculation about a possible retirement. Despite expectations, Cejudo didn’t get the chance to speak during the post-fight interviews.
This isn’t the first time Cejudo has toyed with retirement. His previous exit from the sport in 2020 was followed by a comeback, including a bout against Aljamain Sterling, which ended in a close decision loss. His recent match against Dvalishvili mirrored this outcome, leaving his status in the bantamweight division uncertain.

When questioned about Cejudo’s absence from the mic, Dana White pointed out Merab Dvalishvili’s commendable victory over the former champion: “Merab went in there tonight and beat a former champion in Henry Cejudo,” said White. “He did the whole ‘Drop the gloves’ thing. Tonight was Merab’s night.” White emphasized the significance of Dvalishvili’s win and suggested that if Cejudo contemplated retirement again, it should happen elsewhere.
The future remains uncertain for Cejudo, with many pondering his next move. However, his impact on mixed martial arts is undeniable, stirring ongoing discussions about his potential return to the octagon.
Despite losing his last two on his return from a long-period of inactivity, Cejudo has still shown he can mix it with the best. There’s still winnable matchups for the former Olympian in the 135lbs division, however having attained a load of money and done what most dream of, at 37-years-old it’s hard to remain motivated fighting matchups with unsignificant importance.
