The MMA landscape is changing as Bellator and PFL become one. It has led to much excitement about what the company could be. The merger could mean the first competition the UFC has had in years. Yet, Dana White doesn’t seem worried about the two promotions joining forces.
The MMA Landscape
The UFC has dominated the MMA landscape for many years. Ever since merging with Strikeforce, the MMA juggernaut has been the leader of the sport. Most of the top fighters in the sport compete under the UFC banner, where athletes get the most exposure. Yet, there have been big names who have come out of the PFL and Bellator. Names that come to mind are Kayla Harrison and Michael Chandler. The PFL have also signed former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. It is a massive signing for the promotion and makes their intentions clear on becoming a rival to the UFC. The two companies merging will change the MMA landscape in the future. It will be exciting to see this transformation.
Dana White Shares His Thoughts
There has been a lot of talk around the idea that the new PFL/Bellator roster is on par with the UFC. The PFL are looking to become the co-leaders in the space along with the UFC. White said this when asked about the merger at the UFC Austin post-fight press conference.
“It’s f****** hilarious, but good luck to them. I wish them all the luck in the world,” White said. One organisation acquires another organisation. Both have no ticket sales or viewers. Sounds like a f****** winner to me.”
