Dana White Instantly Matches Jiri Prochazka’s $50,000 Donation to Cancer Patients.
At the UFC 311 pre-fight press conference, Jiri Prochazka took to the mic and announced he would donate money to cancer patients. Prochazka said he would donate $50,000 to honour a fan of his, Ashly McGarity, who is battling cancer.
Ashly was diagnosed with cervical cancer in September and has been undergoing chemotherapy to treat it. Due to her hair loss caused by the chemo, Ashly shaved her hair leaving just a ponytail at the back inspired by Jiri Prochazka’s iconic hairstyle.
After seeing this, Prochazka shaved his hair off ahead of his UFC 311 fight in solidarity with Ashly. He didn’t stop there going on to announce the donation he would make at the press conference.
Touched by the generosity of Prochazka, UFC president Dana White matched Jiri’s offering.
Dana Doubles Prochazka’s Donation
Jiri Prochazka is set to face Jamahal Hill at UFC 311 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Both men are returning to action since losing to Light-Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira by knockout.
Ahead of the event, Jiri Prochazka opened his pre-fight press conference appearance with a charitable message:
“Hello, everyone. This hair was inspired by Ashly, She’s fighting cancer. She will come [to the event on Saturday night], as well as all the oncologist patients. This is my way of showing the solidarity because it’s about sending the good energy, you know?”
He continued saying:
“Yesterday, I reached one million followers on Instagram, so I will give one million (Czech Koruna) through my foundation to oncologist patients. Martial Arts has something to give back. It’s all about the good energy.”
Then boss Dana White clarified Prochazka’s statement to the crowd, immediately matching his donation:
“So what he’s saying is, there’s a little girl that has cancer,” White stated. “He’s flying her out here for the fight and he shaved his head like hers to support her. I’ll match the $50,000 – so it’s $100,000.”
Their charitability was welcomed by the crowd, erupting in a cheer. Jiri Prochazka has also flown Ashly McGarity out to Los Angeles for UFC 311, so she can see her favourite fighter compete.
