UFC 300 is shaping up to be a blockbuster event, with Dana White, the head honcho of the UFC, showering praise on current welterweight champion Leon Edwards. White’s commendation came hot on the heels of Ilia Topuria’s sensational knockout victory over Alexander Volkanovski, seizing the featherweight title, at Saturday’s pay-per-view extravaganza in Anaheim.
Amidst the electrifying atmosphere, White finally lifted the curtain on the much-anticipated main event for UFC 300. Set for April 13, fans are in for a treat as former light heavyweight king Jamahal Hill steps into the octagon against the reigning champ, Alex Pereira, for the 205-pound crown. This announcement put an end to months of swirling rumors and speculation, with names like Khamzat Chimaev and Tom Aspinall vying for the spotlight.
Dana White Praises Leon Edwards for UFC 300 Eagerness to Fight
Leon Edwards, a name synonymous with high-octane showdowns, was also in the mix for the landmark event. Speaking candidly with the press, White confirmed that ‘Rocky’ was knee-deep in negotiations and had shown unwavering willingness to square off against not one, not two, but three potential opponents for UFC 300.
“In this business, seizing opportunities is key,” White remarked during the post-fight presser for UFC 298: “Headlining UFC 300 with all the buzz and all the energy around it… Let me say this. Leon Edwards has had three opponents throughout this thing. Leon Edwards doesn’t say no to anybody. This kid is an absolute stud. He’s had three opponents thrown at him for UFC 300. Yes, yes, yes. He was willing to take on anybody.”
With the UFC 300 main event now etched in stone, let’s take a look at how the rest of the card is shaping up:
Among the potential foes lined up for Edwards were the likes of the No. 2 ranked contender, Belal Muhammad, and the undefeated force of nature, Khamzat Chimaev. Additionally, division standout Shavkat Rakhmonov was also on the radar. Muhammad, in particular, is seen as the next logical challenger for Edwards’ welterweight throne.
