UFC president Dana White has provided the MMA faithful with the latest on the rematch between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards.
During the UFC’s trip to London in March, White confirmed that Edwards will be next in line for the title.
However, Usman is currently recovering from hand surgery.
Dana White Provides Latest on Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards 2
Speaking to BT Sport, White said: “As soon as [Usman] gives us the OK that his hand is ready to go, we’ll make that fight.”
According to Ariel Helwani, the UFC hopes to book the rematch for UFC 278 on August 20.
It’s been rumoured that the event will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah
“UFC would like Usman vs. Edwards 2 to be on that card, but that’s still up in the air because of Usman’s hand recovery,” Helwani said.
Usman has not fought since his decision victory over bitter rival Colby Covington back in November of 2021.
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has caught the eye of many since dethroning Tyron Woodley back in 2019.
Following the win over Woodley, Usman has defeated the likes of Covington, Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns.
Usman’s last defeat came in 2013 and has looked dominant from then on in.
As for Edwards, ‘Rocky’ is coming off of a victory over Nate Diaz back in June of 2021.
Leon is hoping to shock the world when he finally gets a crack at the title.
White has reassured Edwards that he will be next in line. Since the win over Diaz, Edwards hasn’t fought.
Khamzat Chimaev has continued to climb up the ranks. After his recent win over Gilbert Burns, Chimaev has been eyeing up a crack at the title.
Unbeaten since 2015, it’s fair to say that Edwards deserves to be next in line for the title and show the world why he is one of the best.
