UFC President Dana White has admitted that the promotion currently has no plans for a possible return for Conor McGregor.
Recovery Time
Conor McGregor, who is seen as one of the faces of the UFC, hasn’t fought since July of 2021. A gruesome injury sustained in his defeat to Dustin Poirier has left him side-lined for months. However, the Irishman has been teasing a return for some weeks.
The 33-year-old has been keeping fans updated via his social media platforms. From the outset, it would seem that Conor looks happy and healthy.
Dana White Gives Update
“The Notorious” is back in light-sparring and intends to return at some point this year. But, as per Dana White in a recent interview with Chisanga Malata, we may still have a while to wait.
“I literally have nothing for him right now. He’s not ready. The whole landscape could change over the summer. We’ll see when he’s ready to fight. And when the doctor gives him 100 percent clearance, we’ll start looking at possible opponents.”
“We’re looking at early fall if everything goes right. If his leg heals right and he gets the clearance to really start training, then possibly early fall.”
Who Next For Conor McGregor?
At this stage, it is anybody’s guess who Conor will be matched up against next, but there are a few names that fans would be excited by.
The former double-champ has made it clear on a number of occasions that he would like to fight Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. However likely this is or not, a chance to become the first three-division world champion would be something.
As well as this, there are still several lightweight contenders who would be more than willing to take on McGregor. Names such as: Michael Chandler, Rafael Dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson spring to mind. It is also fair to say there is still unfinished business with the likes of Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz.
Whenever the return takes place, fans will be as excited as ever to watch Mystic Mac throw down once again. Who do you want to see Conor fight next? Let us know!
