Dana White tells everyone what should be next for the new light heavyweight champion.
“Eh Adesanya, come to daddy.” These were the words of Alex Pereira at the end of his in-cage interview.
Alex Pereira added another gold belt to his collection at UFC 295. He defeated former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka by TKO in the second round at MSG last night. While the decision by Marc Goddard to stop the fight didn’t sit well with some people, Jiri explained it was a good stoppage as he probably was out. During the victory speech from Pereira, he only had one name on his mind, and it was his former foe. During the UFC 295 post-fight press conference, Dana White wasn’t opposed to that idea.
“Listen, anything is possible,” White said. “I mean Alex moved up a weight class, I don’t see Izzy moving up a weight class, but I don’t know. I’m sure people do wanna see it again. I don’t know the answer to that question yet. We’ll see when Izzy comes back what he wants to do, where his head is. If you look at what he’s accomplished and his time here too, whatever he wanted to do, if he wanted to move up and fight Pereira again we’d probably do it. We’d probably give him a fight at that weight first, if he wins, and then give him a shot at Pereira. I don’t know, I wouldn’t say that we would never do it.”
Dana White Reveals What’s Next for Pereira
Israel Adesanya did come out recently and said he will not fight for a while. After being so active in the last few years he decided to take a break.
Alex Pereira has a lot of history, going back to the days of Glory Kickboxing. Adesanya and Pereira faced off twice in the kickboxing realm. “Poatan” got the best of him by winning a close margin fight and one by knockout. Pereira got fast-tracked in the UFC, all the way to the championship fight versus Izzy. In their first fight, it looked as though Adesanya had the victory until a 5th-round TKO victory for Pereira. The last time both men were in the octagon, Izzy finally got his win by knockout Pereira in the 2nd round. That forced Pereira to move up a weight class and chase the belt at light heavyweight.
With the seesaw of champions at light heavyweight, it was the perfect opportunity for Pereira to snatch the belt. Which he did Last night at UFC 295 at MSG. At the post fight press conference, Dana gave his thoughts on what could be the next man up again “Poatan”.
“Jamahal Hill, when he’s ready, is the fight that makes sense,” White said.
