UFC president Dana White once again has shut down the idea of making Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou.
At the UFC 295 press conference last night at Madison Square Garden, reporters asked the UFC president if a possible cross promotion is possible. Since leaving the UFC, Francis Ngannou signed with the PFL promotion and recently went on to box Tyson Fury. To which the Cameroonian lost a close split decision to the WBC heavyweight champion. Meanwhile, Jon Jones was suppose to headline MSG with Stipe Miocic but had to pull out due to tearing his pectoral muscle.
Before the former champion Ngannou left the UFC, there was talks on a potential Jones-Ngannou match up. After going back and forth for a few months and trying to renegotiate his contract, “The Predator” left for the PFL. This left many fight fans sad as this means no possible matchup between the two in the near future.
Dana White Axes Cross Promotion Possibilities
Reporters at the UFC 295 post fight press conference tried to approach the head of the UFC with that potential matchup again. However, White shut that down really quickly and brought up his points as to why should he.
“Should I promote with the PFL?” Dana White told assembled media after UFC 295. “We’ve got one, two and three of the largest gates in Madison Square Garden, they, PFL can’t sell a fucking gate. It’s a stupid question. Why would I do that?”
“I tried to make the fight here,” White explained. “They Jon Jones & Francis Ngannou didn’t want to do it but I should co-promote with a Bellator or a PFL? Why should I do that? You win the dumb question of the night, congratulations, sir.”
