UFC President Dana White has stated that he would not be keen on a repeat season of Fight Inc.
Earlier this month UFC fans were treated to an invaluable insight into the company. The 3-episode docu-series “Fight Inc: Inside the UFC” launched on June 7 on the Roku TV channel.
The show hosted by Dana White took a deep dive into the unknown. Exploring the day in the life of the president of the premier MMA promotion.
It provided the perspective of the provider of entertainment and not the consumer. Showing just how much goes into the seemingly effortless matchmaking. For example; the buildup to Jon Jones’ return, the rise of UFC star Sean O’Malley and Hunter Campbell’s integral role in matchmaking.
“Fight Inc.” was well received by fans and its virality was notable with multiple clips circulating over the week of release. Although it was a hit with the fans it seems it may just be a one-and-done for the company.
Dana White seems sceptical over the return of the much-loved show.
Dana White Shoots Down Season 2 of “Disruptive” Fight Inc.
In an interview with Barstool’s Robbie Fox Dana White discussed how he felt about the series:
“The other thing, it’s a sliver of what goes on. Fight Inc. covered the people who were close to me. As you can see, those people are close to me right now. This is the group that is always close to me. There is so much more and so many other things that go on in the UFC, you could do 97 seasons of this. We have 600 employees.
When asked about the prospect of a second season White said:
“That, too, is probably a one-and-done. I’m glad that everybody liked it and enjoyed the series. It’s too much behind the curtain for me and it’s disruptive. There are a lot of things you really can’t show. What goes on with Sean (Shelby), Hunter (Campbell), and Mick (Maynard) on phone calls and things like that? I love the Hunter scene where Hunter gets a deal done for the heavyweight championship in a parking lot in a car, fun sh*t. Lenee, you can’t go into the Lenee-Sean Strickland thing, how Lenee’s days go with the press conference. It’s too behind-the-curtain for me and it’s disruptive.”
It is clear that though fans thoroughly enjoyed the behind-the-curtain peek at the company, the boss did not. Shows a particular dislike of the role of Lenee (UFC communications VP) being televised. Though interesting to see from the consumer’s point, legally it could cause issues.
It would seem for the time being the UFC is closing the curtain on the idea of a follow-up season.
