Dana White Breaks Silence on Conor McGregor’s UFC Future Following Guilty Sexual Assault Verdict
On November 22nd 2024 former UFC double champion Conor McGregor was found liable for sexual assault against Nikita Hand. The assault took place at a hotel in Dublin back in 2018, after a night of partying.
As a result of the trial, McGregor was ordered to pay Mrs Hand around $260,000 in damages. McGregor has been out of competition since July 2021 at UFC 264.
Earlier this year he was scheduled to return at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Given his long streak of inactivity and the recent civil sexual assault charge many doubt that McGregor will ever return.
Since the case’s conclusion many of McGregor’s business associates have cut ties with him. Over two weeks on UFC president Dana White has finally broken his silence on the Irishman’s future within the organisation.
Whilst dodging the question, White provided an update on McGregor.
Conor McGregor’s Future
At the UFC 310 post-fight press conference Dana White finally spoke on Conor McGregor for the first time since the case. However, when asked directly about the assault White had nothing to offer:
“What do you mean what’s my reaction? If I had a comment I would’ve put it out already.”
Despite avoiding commenting on the sexual assault charge White left the door open for McGregor to return:
“He hasn’t been fighting here in. I don’t know how long,” he added. “If he does fight, it’ll be sometime next year.”
Given the nature of the charges against McGregor, White’s openness to allowing Conor to fight may cause some upset. However, McGregor firmly believes he is innocent and has stated that his legal team is working to clear his name in court.
