Dana White has responded to Alex Pereira’s request to fight at UFC 301 in Rio in the heavyweight division.
UFC CEO Dana White Weighs in on Alex Pereira’s Heavyweight Request
This past Saturday saw arguably the most exciting UFC card ever. Headlined by Alex Pereira, he did not leave fans disappointed in his performance. After an outstanding first round KO over title contender Jamal Hill, Pereria has set his sights on the heavyweight division.
Pereira made it known prior to UFC 300 that he was looking to return to the octagon sooner rather than later after his title defence. Following his victory, he stated that he would be willing to move up to the heavyweight division next. Dana White gave his thoughts on this during the UFC 300 post fight press conference.
“When you think about him moving up to heavyweight, you got Jones, you got Aspinall”. White said at the UFC 300 post-fight media scrum: “The list goes on and on in that heavyweight division. The heavyweight division is nasty. I don’t know if that’s the right move for him. He looked damn good tonight in the division he’s in. So I think he might want to stick around there for a minute.”
White on What’s Next
“These are all things that we’ll talk about for the next fifteen Tuesdays. We’ll get it figured out.”
After dominating at 185lbs, and now the light- heavyweight division, it is undeniable of Pereira’s greatness. However, such a quick turnaround being less than a month would be tough job for any athlete. It is understandable to see Dana’s hesitation. However, the fact that his last bout lasted less than two minutes, with Pereria taking minimal damage, it could be a real possibility.
