Dana White revealed that the UFC is willing to book a different fight for Michael Chandler this summer, as the wait for Conor McGregor’s return continues.
Dana White: “We’ll do whatever he wants”
Following the cancellation and replacement of UFC 303’s main event. MMA fans were left disappointed that the comeback of “The Notorious” has been delayed – again.
The UFC CEO, White, was featured on The Jim Rome Show where he evidently felt sorry for Chandler while also giving his take on the Irishman’s ongoing situation.
“I think poor Chandler wants to wait for Conor McGregor,” White said. “But whatever he wants to do. If he wants to get a fight this summer, we’ll do whatever he wants. He’s one of the greatest athletes I’ve ever worked with. He’s a good human being. I like him a lot. Whatever he wants to do, we’ll figure out for him.”
Chandler is on a year-and-a-half hiatus outside of the octagon, including his involvement in filming The Ultimate Fighter 31 with McGregor which aired in May 2023. This has led the three-time Bellator lightweight champion to maintain the belief that he will get that red panty night eventually.
Will McGregor vs. Chandler Ever Happen?
“Mystic Mac” suffered a broken ankle in his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, and White confirmed that the injury he picked up before the upcoming International Fight Week is “absolutely real”.
When appearing on The Jim Rome Show, White said: “Conor McGregor – maybe he’ll fight again, maybe he won’t. You never know with some of the guys that get to that level. You never know when you’re going to see them again.”
With almost three years out due to being riddled with injuries, the ball is in McGregor’s court if this fight ever comes to fruition.
Most fans may not believe McGregor vs. Chandler will materialise until they are both in the octagon. Albeit, the question remains: will “Iron” Mike continue waiting on the sidelines, or has he lost patience?
