‘Daniel Cormier has doubled down on his views that Jim Miller doesn’t deserve a place in the UFC Hall of Fame.
This second claim has come after a huge backlash from UFC fans on social media leading to a segment in this week’s ‘DC & RC’ show on ESPN where the Hall of Famer would state:
“Jim Miller never was in the top five. He was never in the top 10. I love Jim Miller. I love everything he’s accomplished, but at one point ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone – who, by the way, I don’t think should be in the Hall of Fame – was the all-time wins leader. Andrei Arlovski at one point was the all-time wins leader. (Arlovski) will be in the Hall of Fame. But in his all-time wins, his longevity also coupled with his championship and all that, that puts him in.”
Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is set to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame ‘modern wing’, class of 2023. Cerrone retired in July 2022 after coincidentally losing to Jim Miller at UFC 276.
I don’t hate Jim, but Jim has a record that at some point can be broken. Israel Adesanya, Alexander Volkanovski, Aljamain Sterling, those guys will never hold the wins record. You want to know why? Because they’re fighting the best of the best.”
These comments followed his original claim that he doesn’t “feel like time served immediately puts you into the Hall of Fame.” After sustaining criticism, Cormier replied with this tweet.
Daniel Cormier Makes Controversial Take
Matt Brown’s Opinion on the Subject
Matt Brown, a fellow UFC fighter, disagrees with Daniel Cormier. Brown stated, on an episode of ‘The Fighter vs. The Writer’ that “I’m guessing like a baseball hall of fame you don’t have to win the [world series] to be in the baseball hall of fame. I’m guessing that’s what Daniel Cormier is saying basically right? Like you’ve got to be a champion, you’ve got to have a belt to get in the hall of fame is what it sounds like to me.”
He would follow that up with “Why would longevity not be a part of the criteria? This is a f****** hard sport to have longevity in […] I love DC too. I’m not badmouthing him. He’s entitled to his own opinion but if your criteria’s going to be that you have to be a champion to get in, well that’s going to exclude a lot of guys that probably deserve to get in.”
