Aljamain Sterling is one of the best competitors in the UFC today. The former bantamweight champion is elite every time he steps into the octagon. He had a successful run with the bantamweight championship. Now, many people wonder if it is time for him to move to featherweight. Yet, Daniel Cormier questions whether that is a wise decision.
The Iconic Aljamain Sterling
Sterling is a fantastic fighter and is an excellent asset for the UFC. He held the bantamweight title for a while before losing it to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. Many people wonder if he has much left to achieve at 135. Sterling is a big bantamweight and can make the transition to 145. There are a lot of exciting matchups for the American at featherweight. Names like Max Holloway, Yair Rodriguez, and Alexander Volkanovski come to mind. It will be interesting to see what Sterling does next; whatever he does, it’ll be entertaining.
Daniel Cormier On The Potential Move
Cormier spoke on his show with Ryan Clark. He questioned if Sterling moving up a weight class is a smart move.
“He should stay at 135,” Cormier said. That’s the right weight class for him. People change weights when they want a change. They do it because they’re not finding success or can’t make the weight anymore. No matter how tough it is, he’s still making the weight.
“Those guys [at featherweight] are big. He’s a bit of a tweener. [Max Holloway] is too big. He has a good chance at winning enough fights to work his way back to a [bantamweight] title fight. He has a better chance at 135 when he’s undeniable again.”
