Daniel Cormier took to his YouTube channel to give responses to the jibes from Jon Jones and the possibility of Nate Diaz headlining UFC 306.
Daniel Cormier Reacts to Jon Jones’ Video
A video of Jon Jones teaching a seminar group has emerged, where he appears to poke fun at Daniel Cormier for the sounds he made when getting kneed to the stomach.
The reenactment from the current heavyweight champion was from their second fight, which Jones won, but was ultimately ruled a no-contest due to a failed drug test.
Cormier took to his YouTube channel to respond to Jones by saying: “I just want everyone to know that while it seems as though he wants to give me my flowers, he likes to make fun of me.
“People say stuff like, ‘(Jon) Jones lives rent-free in DC’s head!’ What about him?! (Jon Jones’s) doing a seminar and he’s doing three things talking about me.
Now fighting at heavyweight and being out with an injury for sustained periods, Jones’ appearance has changed slightly. Daniel Cormier took his chance to fire back with some comments of his own.
The 44-year-old said: “I love the sound he made that I would make when he kneed me in the belly because for a long time, he’s called me fat. I got to see fat under his chin for the first time.”
Is Nate Diaz Still a PPV Draw?
The two-weight world champion followed up his comments about Jones by talking about Nate Diaz warranting a headline feature for UFC 306 at the Las Vegas ‘Sphere’.
This came about when Nate Diaz dismissed a fight for UFC 300 and said he would rather fight at the ‘Sphere’ in September, as per his X post.
Daniel Cormier gave a surprising verdict about the idea, as he believes Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal would be the only dance partners for Diaz to make the fight a headliner.
The former US Olympic wrestling captain said: “While the name value is exciting, Nate Diaz the fighter, isn’t that guy anymore. This isn’t the guy that beat Conor (McGregor) the first time.
“The last time he won a fight was against Tony Ferguson and we know who Tony Ferguson is today. Will I watch him on the pay-per-view card? Absolutely. But to be the headliner, with all these great fighters that are deserving of that spot? I don’t think so. I don’t need to see that.”
Over the past week, Nate Diaz’s return to the UFC looks to be imminent. Until the formal announcement of UFC 306, we will not know if Dana White still sees the MMA veteran as a pay-per-view draw.
