UFC commentator Daniel Cormier has sent some friendly words of advice to Paulo Costa and advises him to face Khamzat Chimaev in the last fight of his contract.
As of late, Costa has come out of his shell with his unique personality and frantic posts across social media. The brash trash-talking and slandering of fellow fighters on the roster tends to get Costa in trouble when confronted by fighters. One man who he’s previously had a run-in with is Chimaev, and it looked like the pair were on a collision course to collide inside the cage.
With the Brazilian caught up with the UFC regarding contract negotiations, it’s doubtful we will see this fight materialise. However, Cormier thinks Costa should really pursue a fight with ‘Borz’.
Daniel Cormier Wants to See Paulo Costa Go After a Fight With Khamzat Chimaev
“Paulo Costa is about done with his UFC contract,” Cormier said. “The UFC will give you a fight to make you prove why we should pay you if you’re at the end because if Paulo Costa goes and beats Khamzat Chimaev, he might get anything he wants. So for him, it makes sense.”
“But if he gets beat and wiped out, now what? That bargaining power is a little bit less. Do you still kind of move the needle a little bit? Yeah. But imagine how much you would move the needle if you’re the first guy to beat Khamzat Chimaev and hopefully beat him impressively. Then, you hold all the chips. When I say chips, I mean the dollars, baby.”

It’s hard to visualise how a fight would pan out between the pair, but one thing is for sure. Nobody would say no!
Do you agree with Daniel Cormier? Should Paulo Costa be doing more to get a fight with Khamzat Chimaev?
