Retired UFC champion Daniel Cormier has had his say on his friend Henry Cejudo and his plan to lobby for a fight against featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski.
“He’s too small!” Cormier said on a recent podcast.
“Aljo’s length caused him some issues and Volkanovski is an absolute monster. Probably the best fighter in the world pound for pound. Henry should not be talking about fighting Volkanovski.”

Daniel Cormier Weighs in on Henry Cejudo vs. Alexander Volkanovski
Former flyweight and bantamweight champion Cejudo made his long awaited comeback earlier in the year, jumping straight into a bantamweight title tilt against current champ Aljamain Sterling, despite not having fought in the organization for three years. While “Triple C” may have come up short against Sterling, he was definitely in the fight and it was a closely contested bout.
Cejudo has made no secret of the reason for his inevitable return, staking a claim to become the first man to win the belt in three different weight classes. He has his eyes set on the 145 strap to make his dream a reality but the imperious Aussie Volkanovski presents the toughest of tests for the Mexican challenger.
Cejudo made his octagon debut back in 2014 and quickly made his way through the somewhat thin flyweight division to take on stalwart champion Demetrius “Mighty Mouse”
Johnson. Despite losing the first bout between the pair, Cejudo avenged the loss in a rematch to claim flyweight gold. Then he set his sights on the vacant bantamweight belt and beat Marlon Moraes to become a two-weight champion. Cejudo retired on top back in 2020 after defending the bantamweight strap against Dominic’s Cruz, but the lure of the bright lights and the chance to make history and possibly a lot of money saw him return to the UFC this spring.
The next task for Cejudo’s possible opponent Volkanovski is a mouth-watering match up against deadly striker Yair Rodriguez. If Volk defends his belt again then there could very well be another Mexican in his sights down the road.
