Daniel Cormier is a true MMA legend and exceptionally knowledgeable about the sport. After a glowing career as a competitor, DC now spends much of his time behind the commentator’s desk, as he calls most of the big fights in the UFC. Leon Edwards and Colby Covington are going to clash at UFC 296. Many fans are interested to see how the bout will play out. However, Cormier has recently warned Edwards about his opponent.
Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington
Edwards and Covington are both sensational athletes and have produced many great performances. Edwards is an incredible striker who could beat anyone if the fight stands up. At the same time, Covington will be looking to get the battle to the floor, as his advantage lies in the wrestling department. They are both well-rounded fighters, yet they have different backgrounds in combat sports. Covington will look to put Edwards under as much pressure as possible. He will do this by coming forward throughout the contest. It will be an exciting matchup and looks to be very competitive. Covington will be desperate to become an undisputed champion for the first time.
Daniel Cormier On Edwards
Cormier has achieved many great things in combat sports. His accomplishments include attending the Olympics as part of the USA wrestling team. In the UFC, he has won the light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles. As previously stated, he is very knowledgeable about the sport, and when speaking on his YouTube channel, Cormier talked about the matchup between Edwards and Covington.
“Leon Edwards’ improvements have been so drastic and vast that it’s hard to imagine a time where he couldn’t have wrestled, or he would get taken down repeatedly. His jump from that first Usman fight to the second fight was impressive, but then my question becomes this guys. It’s one thing to fight a wrestler. It’s another thing to fight a wrestler like Colby Covington.”
Cormier On Covington
Covington is a great competitor, and Cormier explained what makes him unique.
“Colby Covington, love him or hate him; you have to respect that he is a tremendous competitor. He is one of the hardest working guys you’ll ever meet, and if he’s not one of the hardest working guys you’ve ever met, you know some really hard-working people because for Covington to have the career he has had, it is amazing. He’s not the fastest, the strongest, or the biggest, but we’re talking about a guy that became a multiple-time NCAA All-American.”
