Interview With Daniel Myers
Daniel, you’re closing in on making your third outing of 2023. How would you sum up your year in competition?
It was a year full of ups and downs but more ups than downs. All in all, I feel like I’ve improved a lot and learned a lot this year.
In your most recent outing, you managed to pick dust yourself off and find yourself back in the win column after stopping Jayden Parkes in the opening round. Just touch on that fight, that performance, and what it’s done for your confidence leading into October 7.
Coming off a loss, I felt a little cagey but fought my fight, stayed calm and managed to get the win. It was the confidence boost I needed after losing earlier in the year.
Rise and Conquer 13 is not just any fight for you. You will fight for the promotion’s welterweight strap. How much-added fuel does that give you when training and pushing through those tough sessions, knowing you may leave with a belt?
I’m not worrying about the belt. Tbh, if I don’t win, then there is no belt. I’m just working on getting better physically and mentally.
Talking Opponent
Paul Kane is the man you’ll face for the title. Break him down for us, and what are your thoughts on what he may bring to the cage at Rise and Conquer 13?
He’s going to have that undefeated swagger which he has earned. He’s well-rounded, patient, powerful and a good fighter. I believe he’ll be my best opponent to date.
Kane holds a squeaky-clean record and has yet to see the judges’ scorecards. Does that make it difficult when preparing and formulating a game plan? How do you identify flaws in someone’s game who’s yet to taste defeat?
Go in there and see what happens. All I can do is try my best if I win happy days. If I lose, it’s studying what I did wrong and making sure it doesn’t happen again to the best of my ability.
Finally, tell us what it would mean to you to leave with the title on October 7.
Tbh I won’t know until it happens. I’ll be very happy to get the win, but I’d have to see how I feel if that happens.
