Former UFC title contender Darren Till acknowledges Mike Perry’s call outs, meanwhile teasing a return to combat sports.
Beloved British UFC fan favourite Darren Till has remained a hot topic despite being inactive since his last fight in 2022. Till seemed to be an unstoppable force when he joined the UFC in 2015.
He entered his first title shot against Tyron Woodley riding a 17-fight unbeaten streak in 2018. Woodley came out victorious submitted Till in the second round and kickstarted the downfall of “The Gorilla”.
Following his title shot Darren would go 1-4 in the UFC eventually leaving the UFC in 2022 after losing to now Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis.
Darren Till New Pursuit
Despite the poor form Darren Till did not leave the UFC on bad terms. In a mutual agreement, he temporarily parted ways with the company due to his injury-plagued career.
In the hope of healing fully and brushing up on his skills, he has sought other methods of training. Through social media, Till has been sharing training footage this time, in the ring. Last week Darren took to Instagram to share a photo of himself in boxing gloves with the caption “Fight news next week”.
“The Gorilla” took to The MMA Hour to shed more light on his future and his relationship with the UFC:
“I know you’re going to probe Ariel because that’s what you do best but I can’t [announce the fight]. Just give me a couple days [and I’ll announce] I think everyone’s going to be really happy with this announcement. It’s been a long road but we’re nearly there. I’d love to announce on The MMA Hour but I’d get in trouble.”
“I speak to the UFC bosses all the time, they just invited me to Manchester (UFC 304). They asked me if I was going to Manchester and I said ‘Yeah I’m going to wait for some tickets to come out and buy some’, they were like ‘Don’t be silly Till, come as our guest’. I have a good relationship with them.”
When asked about what sport Till would return to he stated:
“Boxing. I think you would agree, for a guy that’s been out of the fight game for 15 months people still talk about me a lot.”
Darren Till’s return to boxing will have fight fans excited to see him return and see the evolution of his skills. Fellow former UFC fighter and BKFC champion Mike Perry seems to have caught the attention of Till.
Darren Till Acknowledges Perry Callouts While Teasing a Return
Darren Till and Mike Perry have had an unusual relationship dating back years. The two have shared insults for one another online since they sparred back in 2018. They have had moments of respect with Till offering to corner Perry back in 2020.
Since moving to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, however, their exchanges have become more fight-focused. Perry rumored that BKFC offered Darren Till two million dollars to fight him but Till was quick to shoot down these claims:
“No two million, you think I’d turn down two million? They offered me good money but as I said I’ve got many offers. I wanted to wait it out and get the right deal for myself and I feel like I have now.”
He went on to acknowledge Perry’s callouts:
“I’d love to fight Perry, I don’t really want to fight him in bare knuckle because I feel like…I’m still young and fresh, so I want to save it [for a future fight]…bare-knuckle’s not the move for me right now…I’m not saying [Mike is at the end], but he’s just a big dumbo. Who’s he been fighting? Eddie Alvarez, Thiago Alves, they got the brain capacity of a loaf of bread. I’ll give him [Michael Venom Page], but I’m not impressed.”
Due to the extreme nature of a BKFC bout, it seems Till is going to stick to the gloves for now. Believing that he still has a lot of unfinished business in combat sports he has not shut down the prospect of returning to the UFC:
“That’s the goal for me, I’m going to win a UFC title, I know I am.”
Fans of Till’s will be delighted to hear the wait is over and will be on the edge of their seats awaiting an announcement on the future of “The Gorilla”.
