Darren Till has put to bed any claims of retirement in the wake of his third-round submission loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 282.
The 29-year-old returned to the octagon on Saturday night, 15 months layoff removed from his defeat to Derek Brunson in September of last year.
Till was almost finished with a barrage of strikes by du Plessis in the first round but managed to regain his composure in the second, teeing off on the South African and taking the round 10-9.
However, the Liverpudlian succumbed to the pressure of his opponent in the final round and was submitted via rear-naked choke.
Darren Till Sends Video Message to Fans
In a video to his fans on Instagram, Till batted away any claims of retirement.
He said: “You don’t always get what you want in this life.
“It’s tough.
“F*cking – I’m 29 now, I’ve been at the top of this sport since 2017, I entered into the UFC back in 2015.
“I’m doing this video ‘cause I feel like you should do it now, the right time’s now.
“I’m not retiring, this is not a retirement speech.
“I’m 29, that would be stupid to retire.”
This leaves the former welterweight title challenger in a difficult spot, winning just one of his last six fights.
Darren Till went on to say he’s going to have some time off from the UFC.
He said: “I’m on a bit of a losing skid at the moment, I really am.
“Whether you love me or hate me, I’m sorry, I don’t know what to do properly.
“I think I’m gonna have a little time off from the UFC, I don’t know, and just rethink stuff.
“I’m not retiring – I want to fight soon, next year.
“But I just wanna spend Christmas now with my family.
“Hope youse loved it, peace out.”
