Last weekend, Tom Aspinall passed his toughest test yet with flying colours.
Headlining his first UFC event, Aspinall defeated Alexander Volkov via first-round submission.
Currently 5-0 in the promotion, Tom has his eyes on fighting for the belt in the future. However, he is in no rush to do so.
With Francis Ngannou set to miss the rest of the year due to injury, there could be big opportunities for Aspinall later this year.
Following his win over Volkov, Aspinal opted to call out Tai Tuivasa for a possible summer showdown.
Darren Till Talks Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones
Speaking to ‘The Schmo’ and Henry Cejudo, Darren Till said: “He just texted me and told me to stop calling out [Ciryl] Gane for him. He wants to fight Tai [Tuivasa] then Gane. So I think he knows his road. I think he’s gonna be the next champion at heavyweight.”
On top of that, Till also had his say on how a potential fight between Aspinall and Jon Jones would go down.
“I think he would play with Jones, I really do.”
In Ngannou’s absence, UFC president Dana White hinted that the promotion might look to do an interim heavyweight title fight.
Leading the queue will most likely be Stipe Miocic and Ciryl Gane. However, following his sensational knockout win over Derrick Lewis, Tai Tuivasa is also in contention. Depending on his current circumstances, the UFC may opt to throw Jones straight into the title picture.
There is no doubt that Tom Aspinall is destined for big things. Heading into the summer, there are plenty of options for the Brit.
Should Aspinall face Jon Jones, who do you think will win that potential showdown? When do you think Aspinall will fight for a title?
