Darren Till ventured out to South Africa this week to meet with politician Duduzane Zuma to promote his new project Gorilla Fight Club. Zuma will be acting as chairman of the company.
Gorilla Fight Club
A new promotion spearheaded by former UFC sensation Darren Till is a boxing entertainment company that looks to dip into the new found market of celebrity boxing bouts. Till joins the like of fellow fighters Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman in the promoter scene. The promotion was announced this week with his partner and chairman Duduzane Zuma, the son of former president Jacob Zuma.
Promising to deliver electrifying events involving global stars from all genres, whether that be athletes, musicians, actors or influencers, all are welcome to meet in the boxing ring. The middleweight from Liverpool believes this will change the face of this ever-expanding industry, which has exploded onto the scene in the past few years.
Celebrity Boxing Scene
The real beginning of this new industry stems from YouTube stars facing off in the ring for entertainment. KSI and the Paul brothers are really at the epicentre of the expansion of these popular events. KSI, who competes regularly, has his own promotion, ‘Misfits’, which features the likes of influencers and musicians. In their most recent controversy, KSI has had his win over Joe Fournier overturned due to an accidental elbow knocking out the 40-year-old. Events are still struggling to win over die-hard traditional boxing fans, understandably, as the skill level is below par. Logan Paul has found himself in the WWE, whereas his brother continues to compete in the ring, most recently out in Saudi Arabia. Jake Paul lost to Tommy Fury back in February but returns to face former UFC star Nate Diaz in Dallas this summer.
Darren Till in Competition
Since his release from the UFC, Darren Till has teased numerous times about a move into the world of boxing as his elite striking skills would translate well from octagon to ring. A friendly rivalry has broiled between the brit and ex UFC now Bare Knuckle FC star Mike Perry over the years, it is unclear if Till would pursue Perry in bare-knuckle, but we could well see Perry come over for the first event of Gorilla Fight Club. The first event is rumoured to happen later this year. With the announcement only in its early stages, more news is likely to follow, in particular, who will feature in this new promotion that is trying to change this industry.
