Former top UFC title contender Darren Till has given his verdict on the rearranged co-main event at UFC 294. Kamaru Usman stepped up on less than two weeks notice to face the unbeaten star, Khamzat Chimaev.
Till has become a good friend to Chimaev and the pair have trained together in the past before the Brit left the promotion back in February this year after a disappointing three losing streak. He was in attendance this weekend at the Misfits event and faced off against back up fighter Mike Perry. The two have plenty of ongoing history back and forth over tweets and interviews and they teased a potential matchup in future.
Darren Till Predicts UFC 294 Winner
Whilst in Manchester Darren Till gave his thoughts on the co-main event when speaking to the Schmo,
“I love Khamzat, God bless him, I said. Usman’s got balls but I just think Khamzat’s gonna run over him,”
“As much as I am his friend, I’m his biggest fan. I think Khamzat. I think he’s gonna run over Usman. All respect to him [Usman], he’s a GOAT. But yeah, I think Khamzat’s gonna ragdoll him.” he reiterated.
It is a bold claim given the resume of the Nigerian and that Chimaev has been inactive for a year.
UFC 294 Reshuffle
Over the last week the UFC some rearranging to do to salvage their stellar UFC 294 card in Abu Dhabi. Firstly, fan favourite Charles Oliveira split his eyebrow in his final sparring session ruling him out of his main event rematch with Islam Makhachev. Up stepped featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski who will fly out from Australia to take his second shot at the Dagestani king.
Following this only days later after numerous rumours, Paulo Costa was confirmed to be out due to a staph infection in his elbow that required additional surgery and would rule him out of the co-main. Fans feared the worst as reports came out that the UFC were struggling for a replacement. Middleweights up and down the rankings were putting their hands up, but it was former Welterweight king and future hall of famer Kamaru Usman that accepted the challenge. The newly slated fight is even more popular than the original.
