According to the very popular and credible UFC Roster Watch Twitter page, Darren Till has been removed from the UFC roster pool. A fighter who on his day could compete with the very best. He has found himself in a patch of bad form losing five of his last six bouts.
The Twitter page in question has been electronically posting any updates to the UFC’s current crop of fighters since August 2021. Tweeting a simple ‘fighter added, or fighter removed’ when a change has been implemented.
Now while the Twitter page garners masses of attention with people waiting on bated breath for the next release. It isn’t always doom and gloom.
For one example, Joanne Wood was a fighter whose name appeared on the page late last year. However, she would inform panicked fans that she was just taking time away, and would be out of the testing pool for a while to heal some injuries. She fights later this month at UFC 286.
Darren Till may have been released but he also may have asked for some time away from the sport given his recent slide. Till hasn’t come out and specified whether or not he is still under contract with the UFC.
To support the fact this may just be a break so he can heal injuries. Last time out in his loss to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 282, he could be heard saying to Bruce Buffer after the bout that he believed he had torn his ACL. If true the healing process is a long and arduous one that would require around nine months of recovery. So this could be why Darren is no longer in the ranking pool.
Darren Till’s UFC Tenure
If this is the end for Darren Till in the UFC his tenure will be fondly remembered. Rising the welterweight ranks in rapid time earning a shot a gold. Many hoped Till would be the UK’s next hope in the wake of Michael Bisping’s retirement but things weren’t to be.
After a move up to middleweight left Till unranked at the time of his potential release things were not as they could have been. An entertaining fighter inside and out of the cage. When Darren Till fought, people tuned in to watch win or lose.
Next Step if This is the End in The UFC
Although his UFC tenure may have ended, there are still plenty of options for “The Gorilla”. Bellator, PFL and ONE FC are all making their own unique waves in the MMA landscape and could be options for his next step.
In Bellator he could become a household name, competing in one of Bellator’s better divisions. Middleweight and welterweight are both viable options. For PFL he could fight it out to compete in their one million dollar tournament and in ONE he could focus on his technical stand-up brilliance and compete in mixed rules bouts.
