Darren Till has reacted to Ian Garry calling in to the TNT Sport Weigh-In Show to evidence the illness he picked up. Which automatically forced his withdrawal from his UFC 296 fight with Vicente Luque.
Garry was one of the hottest topics heading into UFC 296 with many fighters and media members taking shots at him in particular towards his personal life and relationship. The press conference and fight was a chance for him to respond to the noise surrounding him. Inevitably as soon as the news broke stories and speculation began with many thinking the Irishman couldn’t face the heat so decided to pull out.
Dana White broke the news that Garry had Pneumonia earlier in the week, Luque, unfortunately, will not remain on the card even with Kevin Holland’s late attempt to step up.
Darren Till Chimes In
Former UFC contender Darren Till has called out Garry after the emerging video. He tweeted “I’m not buying this, I’ll be honest”. In the video and on the phone call it is quite evident the Irishman is having trouble breathing and speaking, he cleared up false reports from Chael Sonnen who rumoured his son had also fallen ill.
Other than this call Garry is yet to speak out on his illness and against Till plus many other fighters that have lambasted him since his withdrawal from the event in Las Vegas.
Missed Opportunity
This week was an opportunity for Ian Garry to get a win over a top 10 ranked opponent and push towards a title shot against whoever came out on top in the main event or even the victor of Shavkat Rakhmonov vs Stephen Thompson. Now he will be out for an undisclosed amount of time and unfortunately, until he steps back into the cage all the noise and talk within the media will rumble on and on and he has missed the opportunity to put that to bed this Saturday.
With a potential UFC Dublin returning in 2024, the UFC will want one of their Irish stars at centre stage for the Emerald Isle.
