Darren Till to Make Misfits Debut
Former UFC star Darren Till continues to go down the boxing route since parting with the UFC. Till was released by the UFC in 2023 after having a very mixed run and losing 4 of his last 5 fights. Since then he has turned his attention to boxing. He fought in July 2024 in an obscure promotion in an exhibition match against Mohammad Mutie. Till would get a 2nd round stoppage however following the fight a brawl emerged. Following this, he was scheduled to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on a Most Valuable Promotions card, but that fell apart. But, a big announcement came when it was revealed Till would be boxing Tommy Fury. However, Fury pulled out Following Till’s threats of head kicking him.
Instead he will now be having an exhibition match against Anthony Taylor. Taylor is another MMA fighter turned boxer although did not reach the highs of Till’s career. Taylor has been boxing for longer and has made a career fighting on these Misfits cards. In boxing, Taylor has a record of 7-5-1. Currently he’s riding a 4 fight winning streak.
The bout is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 18th January, for 8 3-minute rounds. Regarding weight class the fight is scheduled to take place at 195lbs. This is presumably due to Till not wanting to cut much weight as well as seemingly gaining weight post his UFC career. The bout should be an interesting one between 2 former MMA fighters of different levels.
Darren Till and Future Fights in Boxing
Despite a win not being guaranteed Darren Till has spoken about future fights that interest him. In an interview with Betfred he discussed potential fights. Till said, “I think the likes of Israel Adesanya and some of my other rivals in the UFC. Even though I didn’t get to fight them, I’d love to see them come over to boxing and we can have a little mix up here. It all depends on how it goes. It’s all got to align.”
Now that is very ambitious given the UFC’s approach to letting their fighters box. On top of that Adesanya still may have a decent chunk of his career ahead of him. Despite recent losses he is still one of the top middleweights in the world and has a fight scheduled against Nassourdine Imavov. Potentially when Adesanya retires from MMA he may box but that depends when and how he retires.
If they did end up fighting in boxing or mma most people would understandably favour Adesanya. Adesanya is a far more skilled striker and is way bigger than him. However, it could be a fun watch but first we will see if Till manages to get past Taylor on Saturday night.
