The UK’s Davey Grant returns to action on May 14th at a UFC fight night against scrappy Hawaain Louis Smolka. Former 205 lb champion Jan Blachowicz headlines the event as he takes on surging Serbian contender Aleksandar Rakic.
Davey Grant vs. Louis Smolka: What to Expect?
The TUF 18 finalist has had a couple of tough losses in his last two outings against some of the division’s best in Adrian Yanez and Marlon Vera. He will be looking to get back to the form that had seen him gain back to back knockouts. Those were part of his three-fight win streak, including a massive left hook that shut the lights out of Martin Day at UFC 251.
His dance partner, Louis Smolka, is an exciting one. The former flyweight contender always either brings out the best in his opponents or breaks them. In his last nine fights, the judges have been nullified, with each ending in a finish. Smolka has an astounding output rate and, as is seen often in the islanders in the octagon, is iron-willed. His knockout loss in his last fight was the first of his 25-fight career, and Smolka isn’t one for back to back losses. He will be a real handful for Grant, especially with his back against the wall.
Grant was initially seen as a dangerous grappler who often tapped his adversaries with skill and poise. However, after a forced three-year hiatus, he came back with new tools. The SBG Bishop-Auckland fighter had forged a newfound punching power into his already, as his nickname suggests, “Dangerous” arsenal.
The fight looks sure to earn at least one of the men an extra $50,000 on their paycheck and adds to an already mouthwatering card on May 14th.
Do you think Davey Grant gets it done, and if so how?
