David Benavidez has hinted at a potential move up in weight from Light Heavyweight to Cruiserweight if opportunities don’t come his way.
Benavidez is getting ready for his second bout at Light Heavyweight this weekend against David Morrell but has other things on his mind.
The current Light Heavyweight seems to be sick of waiting out for fights and has intentions of chasing rather than waiting.
Benavidez has claimed if a opportunity against the winner of Bivol Vs Bertebiev doesn’t come within his time that he will move up.
“IF FOR SOME REASON WE DON’T GET THE WINNER OF BETERBIEV-BIVOL, MY PLAN IS TO GO UP TO CRUISERWEIGHTAND FIGHT ZURDO RAMIREZ FOR HIS BELTS.”
The surprise comment comes from Benavidez after his consistent chasing of Canelo Alvarez at Super Middleweight.
Zurdo Ramirez has recently done exactly what Benavidez is speaking about doing beating Chris Billam Smith for WBO title in Riyadh.
The comment has taken some by surprise considering the talent surrounding the Light Heavyweight division and his recent want to dominate the division.
This isn’t the first time Benavidez has mentioned a move up to Cruiserweight claiming he’d be a different animal at the weight.
“CRUISERWEIGHT IS ON MY RADAR AND I WOULD LOVE TO COMPETE AT THAT WEIGHT, I WOULD BE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANIMAL AT CRUISERWEIGHT.”
David Benavidez Will Need His Concentration This Weekend-
Despite his options at Cruiserweight Benavidez will have a huge task ahead of him this weekend against David Morrell.
Morrell is 11-0 with 9 KO’s and has been hunting for this fight against Benavidez following him up to Light Heavyweight.
Morrell also isn’t scared and intends to put a stop to any future plans for Benavidez.
“WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED IN FRONT OFUS. THIS WILL BE THE SPRINGBOARD TO BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS.”
The two will clash on PBC’s very first pay per view event of 2025 and lots of fighters and promoters will be keeping a keen eye on the action.
