David Morrell has come out and apologized to his loyal fanbase after losing a close decision to David Benavidez.
The Cuban powerhouse was in a fiercely contested bout with Mexican American David Benavidez, which lasted the full 12 championship rounds.
Unfortunately, David Morrell came up short losing via decision despite knocking down Benavidez in the 11th round.
Morrell has now come out on X to apologize to his fanbase after the Cuban’s first professional loss.
“Primero que todo quiero pedirle darle gracias a dios por un día más de vida pídele disculpa todos mis seguidores sé que ayer no vieron lo mejor de David Morrell pero la carrera apenas comienza y esto no termina no estoy derrotado gracias a todos por su apoyo a pesar de todo”
Translation:
“First of all I want to ask you to thank God for one more day of life. Please apologize to all my followers. I know that yesterday you did not see the best of David Morrell, but the race has just begun and this is not over. I am not defeated. Thank you all for your support despite everything.”
Although Morrell lost on Saturday night, he gained a large amount of respect and new fans. The Cuban showed a lot of heart and skill to last with Benavidez, who has over double the amount of fights.
Morrell has assured his fans that this will not be the last they see of him and that he will continue on his quest for world titles.
David Benavidez vs. David Morrell 2?
Benavidez has acknowledged a potential rematch with the Cuban down the line.
“There is a good opportunity in the future if he gets more wins. We are both young and we can fight again. I would love to fight him again. I showed that I was above him. He’ll never be able to beat me.”
Benavidez commended the 27-year-old on bringing the fight to him.
“You have to give respect when respect is deserved. There is no bad blood anymore – unless we fight again,”
David Benavidez will, for now at least, look past Morrell and turn his sights to the winner of Bivol vs. Beterbiev on February 22.
Morrell on the other hand will now focus on rebuilding and getting back in the win column.
