David Winiarski is entering his British Fighting Championship bout ready for war when he rematches Geoff Pavey in Middlesborough.
In the pairs first meeting, Winiarski left with a split decision win, however, the Goliath MMA fighter believes he’s made the correct adjustments in order to dominate the fight.
Ahead of fight night, we had the chance to catch up with David Winiarski who is set to leave England with a shiny gold belt. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With David Winiarski
David, next month, you return to Middlesborough, a familiar cage and a cage you’ve had success in once before. What did you like about competing on BFC that made you eager to return?
BFC is a very well-run show. I can’t wait to get back down there right into the lions’ den and showcase my skills.
In your most recent outing, you finally managed to fight on home soil and get your opponent out of there in the first. How did it feel to get that moment finally?
Words can’t explain it. I loved every minute of that fight; I didn’t expect it to be that easy. It felt amazing dismantling that guy in front of my home crowd on my home debut.
This time, you’ll face Geoff Pavey in the headlining bout, I believe. How exciting is it to be one of the main attractions of a show like BFC and have the opportunity to walk away with a title?
The first title fight I intend to impress, I’m gonna leave it all in the cage. No doubt Geoff has given me my best fight to date, but this fight will tell you if it was hard due to it being my debut, or maybe we are well-matched.
Winiarski Talks BFC 4
I believe BFC 4 will be your first title fight. Do any extra measures go into camp when there’s a title on the line? Do you level up the tempo, or do things remain the same for you?
Well, I’m used to 3×3 the first time-fighting in the cage 5×3, so we work that into my training. As I said, I plan to leave it all in there, so that’s what I do each and every single training session: train hard and fight easy, as they say.
Everyone knows what to expect when David Winiarski fights. Action from the opening bell. Give a teaser of what the BFC audience is in for.
Well, I’ve heard he’s coming for a war. He’s in for a rude awakening. I am a Scot. We were born for war. There is a reason the Romans built a war to keep us out, and he’s gonna find out why.
Amateur titles mean a lot to some. To others, nothing! What would attaining that strap mean to you?
This may be my first title shot, but I can assure you I plan to win a lot more.
Geoff Pavey is the man who attempts to take the belt away from you. What do you see when watching tape and evaluating his game?
Me and my main coach, Steven Harris, and I feel like we know what he’s going to do, so we have changed a few things up this camp. You’re going to see a new and improved fighter expect a fight put it that way.
