David Winiarski is thrilled to fight in Scotland for the first time in his amateur career this Saturday at Goliath Fight Series 3.
The Scotsman is looking to rebound from his first career loss, and is confident with a home crowd behind him, he’ll find himself back in the win column however he pleases against Sheldon Rodwell.
Ahead of fight night, we had the chance to speak with David Winiarski to see what’s going through his head upon his return to the octagon.
Interview With David Winiarski
David, your return to MMA competition is closing in. Last time out, you suffered your first career loss. How have things been since then in terms of your mindset moving forward?
If anything, the loss has given me an insight into some holes I have in my game, so I wasted no time in making sure to patch that up.
Staying on the topic of your fight at Cage Warriors Academy Wales. What do you feel went wrong in there?
Im not making excuses, but I had a lot going on in my personal life. My head just wasn’t in the game.
After winning four straight and then being dealt with a loss. How did you handle that? Some fighters take losing very differently.
Everyone loses in life. It’s about how you bounce back that defines you. Just wait and see Davids’s back, 2.0.
Having had some time off to recharge the batteries, sharpen your existing tools and add new techniques to your arsenal, how much are you looking forward to getting back in there in front of your own people alongside your teammates on Saturday night?
First time fighting in Scotland, time to give the fans exactly what they’ve been asking for five fights and not one of them has been in my home country, so it’s time to put on a show.
David Winiarski on Importance of Leaving With a Victory
How important is it for you to return to the win column this Saturday and start rebuilding that momentum you had before?
Crucial, I will accept nothing less.
Since competing, you’ve been extremely active, always willing to go out and dance under those lights. What are some of the things you’ve learned the most about yourself, as well as the game thus far, in your early career?
I’ve learned that no one will compete with my stand-up, but before I was a one-trick pony. Gone are those days.
Sheldon Rodwell is the man you’ll face come fight night. Looking on paper, you’re predicted to run through him with relative ease. Is that exactly what you’re thinking as well, and what does a fight like this do for you? Is it just dust off the cobwebs of your most recent outing and get back on the horse?
I’ve taken this fight at very short notice. I didn’t know if I was even going to fight on this show. Harris arranged a guy who would be happy to fight on the same short notice. To be honest, I’ve not researched him. I know no one beats me on my best day.
Quick Turnaround?
You get Sheldon out of there in the first, and you walk away unscathed. Are you looking for a quick turnaround? What can we expect from David Winiarskii from now until the end of 2023?
I’ll be realising some exciting news about my next opponent very soon.
When you started the sport, did you have any short/long-term goals, and if so, have they changed over your first one/two years?
My plan is and always has been to get in there, dazzle the big promotions and get signed. Nothing changed.
Finally, how do you get Sheldon Rodwell out of there this Saturday at Goliath Fight Series 3 at the Lochgelly Centre?
Whatever way I decide.
