Deji came and returned to the boxing ring this evening during the Misfits Boxing event in Doha Qatar. It has certainly left the fans buzzing, but not necessarily for all the right reasons. This is due to the British YouTuber being able to secure a dramatic stoppage victory against DaWood Savage. This is despite a performance that many thought left him trailing on the scorecards. The fight, which was part of the highly publicized ‘Super Card’ event under his brothers KSI’s Misfits Boxing banner, took a controversial turn in its conclusion.
DaWood Savage was coming into this fight with a 0-5 record and had suffered losses to Salt Papi and Ben Williams. However, he appeared to be outboxing Deji in stretches. However, Deji’s eventual win came after a bizarre sequence. Following a clinch, Savage would end up on the canvas after what many fans describe as a “phantom punch” sequence. This has led to heated debates on platforms like X (formally Twitter) as well as Instagram, with some accusing the fight of being poorly officiated or staged.
The fans are split, with some celebrating Deji’s perseverance and victory. This is while others have criticized the apparent lack of clarity in the stoppage. The controversial ending of the fight has only added to the event’s drama, keeping Misfits Boxing a hot topic in the influencer boxing scene. Whether this win has enhanced Deji’s credibility or has fueled scepticism around influencer boxing remains to be seen.
Deji Secures Controversial TKO Victory in Bizarre Misfits Boxing Comeback
Coming into tonight’s ‘Super Card,’ questions were swirling around Deji’s increasingly unusual boxing comeback. After an active 2022 that went and included three fights and an exhibition against Floyd Mayweather, the YouTuber competed just once last year before announcing his return to the ring.
Initially, Deji was scheduled to face reality TV star Joey Essex. However, the match-up fell through, leaving Deji to square off against winless influencer DaWood Savage. Savage is widely regarded as one of the weakest competitors in the celebrity boxing circuit. Deji had entered this fight nearly 10 pounds heavier than his opponent with the contest being switched to exhibition rules at the last minute. This change reduced the fight to four two-minute rounds, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the match-up.
In the early exchanges, Savage surprisingly appeared to the edging the fight, at least in the eyes of fans. With Misfit’s current champion Anthony Taylor in his corner, Savage adopted an aggressive scrappy fighting style that frustrated the more technically skilled Deji.
The tide then turned early in the third round when Deji threw an uppercut right cross combination that seemed to miss its mark. Despite no apparent contact, Savage would then go on to hit the canvas. The referee would then decline to call it a knockout. However, moments later, during a clinch, Savage inexplicably dropped to the ground once again. This time, he refused to get up, handing Deji a controversial TKO victory.
Fans Slam Controversial Victory: ‘The Weirdest Boxing Match Ever’
Social media has erupted in outrage following the fight, with many fans accusing it of being staged. In his post-fight interview, Savage claimed to have suffered an injury. However, his explanation did little to appease users on X who went and expressed their frustration over the bizarre ending.
One fan went onto X and wrote;
“Deji was literally losing the fight, then his opponent gave up after receiving two punches. Deji also came into this fight fatter than he was before training camp. Deji is honestly a clown.”
Another fan described the fight as “The weirdest boxing match I’ve ever seen lmao,” while a third added, “That looked like the weakest knockout I’ve ever seen, and it even looked like it took him a couple of seconds to process that punch before going down.”
The ringside commentator Ben Davis, who is a former BKFC and Karate Combat fighter, was perplexed by the turn of events. He came out and tweeted;
“With respect – what was that?”
