Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott has warned fans that Wilders next opponent will be a “dangerous,” one.
Former heavyweight contender, turned trainer, Malik Scott has told fans that they can expect a dangerous opponent for his return to the ring. Scott played down the suggestions that Wilder is on the slide stating is last fight was a “bad night at the office,” urging fans to get behind the knockout artist, Wilder.
The Last Outing for Deontay Wilder
Deontay Wilders last outing saw him lose a wide points decsion to the former WBO Heavyweight Champion Joseph Parker. Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker was featured on the undercard of a stacked fight night in Saudi Arabia on the 23rd of December 2023 as part of Riyadh Season. With Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin heading up the card. It appeared that the stars had finally aligned for Boxing fans and we were finally going to see the hardest hitters in the division face off. Joseph Parker on the other hand had different ideas and out boxed the devastating puncher in a brilliant performance.
Activity has not always being the Bronze Bombers strong point. His last victory was a highlight reel knockout of Finnish boxer Robert Helenius in the very first round. This fight took place more then a year before Wilder boxed Parker. Going back even further, he lost suffered a knockout defeat to Tyson Fury, again almost a whole year before fighting Helenius.
Deontay Wilder is no stranger to obscure reasoning as to why he lost fights. Regarding his two losses to Fury. He claimed his ring walk suit was too heavy. Wilder even suggested that Fury had egg timers in his gloves and that’s why he was knocked out by the British fighter. It appears that both Wilder and his trainer believe that the reason he was defeated in the last outing. Was due to Wilder taking a psychedelic drug named Ayahuasca which supressed his fighting spirit.
Whats Next?
So who is next for Deontay Wilder? Whilst nothing has being confirmed. There are strong rumours circulating that Deontay could return to the ring against the hard hitting Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang. Zhang last fought agaisnt Joseph Parker on the undercard of Joshua vs Ngannou. Losing a points decsion, even after securing two knockdowns.
The fight is rumoured to be taking place on the undercard of the Undisputed Light-Heavyweight fight between Dimitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev on June 1st. Which also see’s the much anticipated 5 vs 5 between two rival promotors Matchroom and Queensbury. Although there has being no confirmation of what’s next for Deontay Wilder.
