Former lightweight champion and arguable lightweight GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov has recently found himself in hot water. Khabib has run into trouble with the law over issues related to tax. Earlier this month reports first came out that Khabib had ran into issues over unpaid tax allegedly owing the Russian Federal Tax Service 297 million Rubles or $3.3 million. Following this Russian authorities have started taking action.
Khabib Nurmagoemdov In Financial Trouble
According to reports enforcement proceeding have been started against the eagle for roughly $900,000 with the seizure of various assets. Khabib has also been prohibited from leaving the Russian Federation. What’s interesting about that is on his Instagram Khabib has made various post of him travelling out and about. One such post is him in what appears to be somewhere in the Middle East 3 days ago. So it would seem Khabib has fled his country to avoid prosecution.
Khabib himself hasn’t appeared to acknowledge his financial troubles on his social media. This isn’t particularly surprising as Khabib is generally a private individual who since retirement hasn’t really been in the spotlight. Also, publicising that your assets are being seized and that you owe your government money isn’t a good look. Particularly for Khabib who’s brand and image is based off of him being a devout and disciplined Muslim.
Conor McGregor Gives Take
Conor McGregor a bitter rival of Khabib did not miss the opportunity to give his take. As with most of his tweets Conor deleted it shortly after posting it. The tweet read “Broke and on the run if you see him tell him push ups for cash”. Referencing Khabibs situation and the infamous clip of Khabib and Islam Makachev asking a homeless person to do push ups for money. McGregor may be correct about Khabib being on the run given his current situation and so could be avoiding the authorities by going to different countries.
What is next for Khabib Nurmagomedov is uncertain except for the seizing of more of his assets given the amount he owes the government. The star seems content to avoid the repercussions of his actions by travelling. However, if Khabib eventually runs out of money he may be forced to return to Russia to face the authorities. This also calls into question what will become of his late fathers and now his gym without Khabib there? Khabib also has a wife and children who he may have left in Russia or brought with him it is uncertain.
This isn’t a good look for the star and we shall see how the situation plays out in due time.
