Since Diego Lopes came into the UFC, he has put on multiple impressive performances. These performances have drawn the support of fans and have made him a top contender in the featherweight division. Diego Lopes now wants to avenge his only defeat in the UFC after his latest stoppage victory against Sodiq Yusuff.
Lopes Wants Evloev Rematch
Diego Lopes competed this weekend in Las Vegas at UFC 300 against Sodiq Yusuff. Lopes was able to knock out Yusuff within 90 seconds of the first round. This was Lopes’s 3rd straight finish in the first round. After his victory, Lopes could be seen jumping over the octagon straight after getting the victory and going over to speak to UFC CEO Dana White. Diego Lopes revealed afterward that he went and asked Dana White for a rematch against Movsar Evloev. Evloev spoiled the party when Lopes came in on short notice after Bryce Mitchell pulled out with an injury back in 2023. Even though Lopes came in on short notice, he put on an impressive performance and even came close to submitting Evloev. However, Lopes would go on to lose the fight by Unanimous Decision. Speaking about this match-up at a post-fight media scrum, Lopes said:
“Movsar is next in the International Fight Week, give me the rematch… I think the first fight speaks for itself,”
“I think whatever fights came after that, they say I deserve a rematch.”
Diego Lopes Calls Evloev “Mr. Decision”
Since these two fought In 2023 the activity level has not been the same. Diego Lopes has racked up 3 1st round stoppage victories meanwhile, Evloev has only fought once, getting a decision victory over Arnold Allen in January. This victory, however, didn’t impress Dana White who openly criticized the fight by saying it was the “least fun fight anybody ever seen”. Diego Lopes has since given Evloev the nickname of “Mr. Decision” with all his victories in the UFC (8) coming by decision. The only fight Dana White liked from Evloev was the fight between him and Diego Lopes according to Lopes. Talking about their recent interaction on social media, Lopes went on to explain:
“I think it’s really actually funny that he went on social media and said that my greatest feat was to have a fight against him,” Lopes said. “And I went back on social media and told him, ‘Well, your greatest feat is to make Dana White like a fight that you’re involved [in], which is the one I was involved [in]. So I like to call him decision man. I even coined the term ‘Mr. Decision.’ I think his work speaks for it, and my work speaks for myself.”
Will we see a rematch in the future? Will Lopes be able to get revenge for his only UFC defeat? We will have to wait and see however, it would be a great fight to witness once again.
