Diego Lopes vs Sodiq Yussuf opens up the prelims for UFC 300 in a gauranteed barn burner. Lopes looks to enter the top 15 at featherweight and Yussuf looks to re-enter the win column.
Diego Lopes Decimates Sodiq Yussuf at UFC 300
Lopes seeks to enter the rankings with a win over 13 ranked Yussuf securing him a ranking and extend his winning streak. Yussuf however looks to defend his ranking and secure a win following a decison loss to Edson Barboza at UFC Fight Night Yussuf vs Barboza.
Lopes aims to continue his win streak and get himself ranked at 145. His last 2 wins have been quick first round finishes over Tucker and Sabatini sending him into stardom. Prior to these wins he lost a close decision to number 5 ranked Mosvar Evloev which peaked the initial interest in Lopes. Since then Lopes has gone on to improve sparking all the more interest in his how his career will play out only being 29. Although his style is risky it can be highly rewarding as well and his striking pressure and grappling can spell disaster for Yussuf.
Yussuf looks to defend his position in the rankings and get himself back in the win column following a loss to Edson Barboza. Yussuf is a qualified striker and can compete with Lopes on the feet. However, Yussuf needs to be very wary of Lopes’ grappling and make sure the fight doesn’t go to the ground.
What Unfolded?
After a brief calm the storm of Diego Lopes unfolded. Lopes lands a short right uppercut in the clinch dropping Yussuf where a brief scramble occured Yussuf getting back to his feet. After this Lopes was all over Sodiq dropping him again with an uppercut and following up with ground and pound securing a first round TKO. Lopes the gift that keeps on giving puts the top 15 on notice.
