Ten days out from the biggest fight of his career, Dillian Whyte breaks social media silence.
Since the fight with Tyson Fury for the WBC heavyweight title was announced, Dillian decided to go radio silent. After not attending the fight announcement press conference at Wembley Stadium, Dillian still chose to keep quiet. Dillian hasn’t posted the fight poster or given any acknowledgement of the fight on his social media pages.
The feeling from team Whyte is that they have been lowballed with the purse split by the WBC. This has caused team Whyte to feel as though they are not getting what they deserve.
WBC Rules in Favour of Team Fury
In normal circumstances, when a WBC interim champion faces the champion, the split for a purse bid would be 55/45 in favour of the full champion.
The WBC rules state that they can be changed at the discretion of the WBC. They also state they can be changed when one fighter has made considerably larger earnings compared to his counterpart.
As the WBC interim champion, Dillian and his team feel they are entitled to 45% of the purse bid.
Team Fury petitioned with the WBC to make sure Whyte doesn’t receive 45% of the purse split. Instead, they believe Dillian Whyte should only be entitled to 20% of the split due to the differences in past earnings.
Fury has had back to back mega fights in America with Deontay Wilder earning him a reportedly $20M per fight. They also waited 2 years for the third fight so they could have a live gate.
Dillian has fought in the UK and Gibraltar under covid circumstances and behind closed doors. This means Dillian’s fight purses have been considerably less than Fury’s hence the petition to the WBC.
The WBC granted team Fury’s request that Dillian should receive only 20% of the purse bid.
With Dillian not being happy with the split, he decided not to promote the fight. He has stayed silent while training in Portugal for the most important fight camp of his career.
Frank Warren has made it very clear that Dillian Whyte does have contractual obligations to promote the fight.

Dillian Whyte breaks social media silence to let everyone know he is ready to fight come April 23rd:
Is this the promotion Frank Warren wanted? Should Dillian have promoted the fight more? Is Dillian in the right to have done the bare minimum for the promotion?
It is certainly going to be an interesting fight week. At this point, we are expecting the unexpected from Dillian Whyte. What will happen when Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte finally come face to face?
