Dillian Whyte returned between the ropes last night in Ireland.
Whyte defeats Christian Hammer via TKO in the third with ‘Hammer’ retiring on his stool after the third round. The Bodysnatcher got off to his usual start of utilising his jab whilst plodding forward in the in the third round piling on more pressure throwing power shots at his opponent. The onslaught was to much for Christian Hammer to deal with, forcing him to quit between rounds.
Unfortunately due to the low key nature of the fight not many will have seen this fight or heard of it until now.
Now after disposing of Hammer in quick fashion Whyte has many options for his future. He appeared disappointed post fight with how quickly it was over probably wanting to dust off the cobwebs.
In a post fight interview with fight Connect TV calling Hammer a “coward”. But he was grateful for the fight as he was “in a dark place mentally” due to his inactivity from boxing, as well as weight gain prior to his camp.
Dillian Whyte Defeats Christian Hammer by KO on Boxing Return
Due to the short nature of this bout it is still unclear where Whyte is physically, but it is still clear he’s still got the fire wanting to fight again in “6-8 weeks”.
Following this impressive win Whyte has many potential fights to have within this thriving division, with names like Joe Joyce doing the rounds, who just recently defeated Kash Ali vs. KO in round ten.
The Whyte and Joyce match up makes sense for many reasons. Both are older fighters looking to re-enter the higher levels of the division. On top of this fans love domestic fights with two notable UK heavyweights.
With rumours of a Matchroom vs Queensbury card being in talks, this slots right in. Joyce a Queensbury fighter and Whyte although not a Matchroom fighter has good relationships with them.
The Joyce fight isn’t the end all and be all Whyte could fight Dubois in a domestic fight or any top 15 heavyweight. Another interesting fight is Whyte vs Wilder considering they never fought when Whyte was Wilders mandatory for years. This would be a bad blood fuelled match up but Wilder’s situation is unclear potentially being retired.
All in all Whyte appears to have enough gas in the tank to be a factor in the heavyweight division.
