Dominick Cruz announces Retirement, but why?
The Dominator said the decision had nothing to do with his last performance, but feels his injuries are catching up to him. He is also now 39, which is a more senior age than most active bantamweights on the roster. When on the podcast Cruz said:
“It’s not because of my mentality, not because of my skillset. Yeah, I lost my last fight, but I was in that fight every minute of the fight.”
“The skills are still there. It’s just a matter of all the injuries and stuff. Can I keep them together to get through the camp? The camp is the hard part.”
Inactivity
Dominick Cruz will be coming off a two and a half year lay off when he faces Rob Font. A lot of this comes down to injury as Cruz has faced multiple ACL tears on both knees. This will also be his first fight since coming off a bad knockout loss to Marlon Vera back in 2022. This is not the first time Cruz has faced retirement but is likely going to be the final time as he is getting to a more senior age for a bantamweight.
A look at ‘The Dominators’ career
Dominick Cruz Is likely to be submitted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame after having a phenomenal career at bantamweight. The dominator was able to hold the title in the WEC (World Extreme Cage-fighting) as well as the UFC. Cruz also holds wins over some of the UFC’s top names like TJ Dillashaw, Demetrious Johnson and Uriah Faber. Many fans rank him as the best bantamweight the UFC has seen, and to no surprise as he has fought some of the toughest opponents in the division. The former champ gained popularity from his unique footwork and movement that he would use, and we will hopefully get to see it once more against Rob Font in Seattle.
