Don’Tale Mayes knows what he wants next after getting his hand raised at UFC Vegas 91 last Saturday.
Don’Tale Mayes Frustrated With Decision Victory
Mayes was coming into his fight against Caio Machado on the back of a defeat to Rodrigo Nascimento. Rodrigo Nascimento was able to get the decision victory over Mayes back in November 2023. However, while he was unsuccessful that evening he was able to get back into the win column last Saturday. This was due to being on the right side of a decision victory against Caio Machado at the UFC Apex. This victory has improved his victory to 11-6 and his UFC record to 4-4.
The big talking point of his fight against Machado was the first round knockdown which tipped the scales in his favour. Although he is frustrated he wasn’t able to get a stoppage finish, Mayes knows the importance of this victory. Speaking to reporters post-fight Don’Tale Mayes spoke about his performance.
“I feel some type of way when I don’t get the finish, but it could be worse,”
“I’m still happy getting the win. Getting the win feels good. He was a lot more durable than I thought, really.”
Wanting to Fight on Hometown Card
Don’Tale Mayes did admit that during his fight against Machado, he has picked up a few scratches. However, while he has picked up these scratches he still called for a quick turnaround. This is due to the UFC putting on a card in Don’Tale Mayes’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky on June 8th. Don’Tale Mayes explained he badly wants to get onto that card when he says;
“I’m hoping I can get on that UFC Louisville – that’s the hometown,”
“I haven’t fought there since my pro debut and I’m hoping I can get on that. It’s probably six or seven weeks.”
“(I’ll fight) whoever. Give me No. 15, give me No. 14, No. 13 – No. 10. I just want someone that can help pack the house.”
