Donald Trump isn’t pleased to see his two supporters, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, continue to beef.
Both men have voiced their love and support for Trump over the years while being President and the departure. Once close friends and teammates, Covington and Masvidal, are anything but these days, and both fought each other at UFC 272. While Covington dominated the fight, earning a unanimous decision, the rivalry continued into the streets of Miami.
Donald Trump Weighs in On Jorge Masvidal vs. Colby Covington
Trump wasn’t entertained by seeing his two close supports fight and had the following to say:
“They had a fight with Colby, who I really like too, you know Colby, those two don’t like each other too,” Trump said on UFC Unfiltered (h/t MMANews). “Colby is a MAGA guy, he walks into the ring sometimes wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat and he’s got a great fight coming up [with Leon Edwards]…”
“I don’t love it [being asked to choose between Covington and Masvidal], I hate to give that kind of an answer too,” Donald Trump continued about Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. “I don’t like to do that but I’ve had a couple where because I know a lot of the fights, I’ve held a lot of fights for my own reasons I mean it brings people, it brings success, it brings money, it brings a lot of good things and it’s an interesting business.”
Donald Trump considers himself in a tough spot and wants to show both fighters his support as they have with him.
With Masvidal retiring from MMA, Trump can now turn his focus towards Covington’s upcoming fight. The 2x title challenger will face off with Leon Edwards for the welterweight title at UFC 295 in Madison Square Garden, New York. Covington hopes to claim undisputed gold in his third attempt after losing twice to Kamaru Usman. For Edwards, he aims to make a second successful defence of his belt.
