Recently on the Believe You Me podcast Drew Dober expressed great interest in a heavily rumoured bout with polarizing star Paddy Pimblett. Both men are on winning runs in the lightweight division. Dober has won his last three, all coming within the distance, and Pimblett is undefeated since his UFC debut in 2021.
When asked by Michael Bisping about the fight Dober had this to say:
“Well, that’s one exciting fight, I think everyone wants to see me punch Paddy in the mouth and to test his scouser theory, but it’s really all in his field.”
Does Dober vs Paddy Pimblett Make Sense?
Since the scouse sensation landed in the UFC, his brazen attitude has divided opinion among the MMA community. He has received a lot of backlash over his last win over Jared Gordon, a unanimous decision that many of the public had scored in for the American. After getting through that test, fans are eager to see Pimblett challenged by someone just outside or within the top 15 of the Lightweight rankings. Drew Dober sits at #14 in the rankings and is in great form. He, like many of the UFC lightweights, has called for the fight with Pimblett as they look to steal his shine. The Nebraska native has never shied away from a fight, as he has proven in his last three fights that sway in and out of his favour.
As said previously, Paddy is a rising star that has been called out on numerous occasions and on both PPV shows already this year. Therefore ‘The Baddy’ will have plenty of options which Dober eluded to in the interview.
“I’ve been putting my name up in the mix to fight him. Now we’re just figuring out what the UFC wants to do with Paddy. When he has x-many followers on Instagram, he has to call the shots. We’ll see what he wants and I’ll agree to it.”
With Paddy being one of the most watchable characters on the roster, no matter who his next opponent is, many eyes will be watching on.
If it is not Drew Dober, who would you like to see Paddy Pimblett’s face next inside the octagon?
