UFC middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis has taken to X to tease fans that his next fight and first title defence is imminent.
After winning the middleweight title earlier this year at UFC 297 in January. Where he claimed the belt by defeating Sean Strickland over five rounds to score a split-decision victory. Dricus Du Plessis’ next fight has been a topic of much conversation.
Dricus Du Plessis Hints Next Fight is Imminent ‘I’ve Agreed’
The 30-year-old champion who has an incredibly impressive record of 21-2, has taken the UFC by storm. His unorthodox style has made him one to watch and not many fans predicted him to be in this position after just seven fights.
Taking to X, Du Plessis has claimed he has agreed to a fight and a location for his next fight but is waiting on his mystery opponent to do the same.
Potential Opponents
His former foe and the man he beat to earn the belt, Sean Strickland. Has been on a verbal revenge tour ever since his UFC 297 defeat. Strickland, who is a figure of much controversy anyway, has made his feelings clear. He wants the rematch and thinks he should still be the champion.
The more talked about option, however, is Israel Adesanya. Adesanya and Du Plessis already have bad blood, and fans believe this next fight is likely. The two started locking horns after comments made by Du Plessis angered Adesanya. As the South African claimed he is the real African between the pair, training and fighting out of the continent.
The South African star is keen on bringing the UFC to his home continent for the first time. Talk of a UFC Africa card has been prevalent since well before he gained championship gold. However, with the title strapped firmly around his waist, many feel this would be the perfect time to host an event in his homeland.
Adesanya has Nigerian roots and a bout between two of the UFC’s biggest stars on their continent of origin could be groundbreaking for the UFC. Adesanya has been on a career break since his loss to the aforementioned Sean Strickland at UFC UFC 293 last September.
