Dricus Du Plessis has revealed that he wants Khamzat Chimeav as his next opponent.
The middleweight champion also dismissed a rematch with Sean Strickland.
With a dominant showing in his last fight, surely Chimeav is in the title picture.
Dricus Du Plessis Wants Khamzat Chimaev Next Following UFC 308
Speaking to Radioraps Dricus Du Plessis said; “We always knew that, between Rob and Khamzat, if it was going to be something exceptional that happens, there might be a change in the title fight.”
“We have no clarity on that, but as a fan of the sport, and as the middleweight champion of the world, that’s a fight that gets me more excited – taking somebody’s 0. I’ve beaten Strickland before, and I know I’ll beat him again.
“Getting that Khamzat fight, that gets me excited. I think the whole world; the fans want to see it. The fans ultimately pay to watch the fights. So, the fight the world thinks is the best next fight, that’s what I want. I think the Khamzat fight is 100 percent what I want. The UFC is going to do what they’re going to do, but from a fan perspective and from a fighter’s perspective. I think Khamzat should get the next shot.”
Chimaev to be Rewarded With UFC 308 Performance
Following on from his dominant display at UFC 308, Khamzat Chimeav could be in line for a title shot. This has now been echoed by the champion Dricus Du Plessis. The pair could face off in the near future with the early quarter of 2025 a possibility.
Considering how dominant Chimeav’s performance was over a tough opponent in Robert Whittaker, the Swedish fighter should be rewarded. Whittaker who has long be a top middleweight was easily dispatched by Chimeav. Blessed with elite grappling skills and boxing Chimeav has long been seen as a future UFC champion.
On the other hand, Dricus Du Plessis has steamrolled through the UFC, beating all his opponents. With elite-level cardio and grappling skills, Du Plessis will be Chimeav’s toughest opponent to date. The South African’s ability to absorb heavy shots and boxing will make this fight interesting. While Dana White has said Sean Strickland is next to fight for the middleweight title, the UFC could postpone that fight.
