UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier has chimed in on the viral video of UFC President Dana White slapping his wife.
White wouldn’t have anticipated his 2023 state the way it had when an argument broke out between him and his wife at a nightclub in Mexico. The video showed White’s wife, Anne, hitting White, who quickly hit her back. TMZ released the video footage on January 2nd.
Since the incident, White has taken all accountability and understands the hate fired towards him. He’s labelled his actions as “embarrassing” and wants to focus on his family for the time being.
Dustin Poirier Weighs in on Dana White NYE Altercation
“I’m embarrassed, but it’s also one of those situations where we’re more concerned about our kids. We have three kids, and obviously since the video popped up, we’ve shown the kids the video and we’re more focused on our family right now. People are going to have their opinions on this. Most of the people’s opinions will be right – especially in my case. You don’t put your hands on a woman ever. My wife and I obviously love each other. We’ve been together for a very long time. We’ve known each other since we were very little, and this is just one of those unfortunate situations.”
The UFC roster has had divided opinions on the matter, and many have remained quiet. Poirier was the latest to give his views on the situation.
During an interview with BloodyElbow, Poirier said the following:
“Dude… I’m not sure. I have no clue. You should never put your hands on a woman. I don’t know the repercussions that come along with somebody of his stature, running these businesses and doing something like that. I have no clue. It’s not a good look for sure.”
At this time, White has faced no repercussions for his actions, and Poirier doesn’t want to give an opinion on the matter he knows nothing about:
“I’m staying out of it because I’d be talking out my ass. I don’t know what should happen. I don’t know what should happen.”
Poirier’s last outing occurred in November of 2021 at UFC 281 at Maddison Square Garden, where he snatched a third-round submission of Michael Chandler. The American does not have a fight booked but has revealed his disinterest in fighting several names behind him in the rankings.
