Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway have met twice in the octagon, with Poirier coming out on top both times. However, despite his two victories over Holloway, Poirier is open to a third and final showdown with him—especially now that Holloway holds the BMF title. The idea of a “last dance” with his former opponent seems like a fitting way for Poirier to close out his storied career.
Following Poirier’s recent loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, he hinted that retirement might be on the horizon. The idea of a last fight has been on Poirier’s mind, and he’s shared that he’s open to one final matchup before stepping away from the sport.
When a fan asked Poirier about the possibility of facing Holloway again, Poirier responded, “Last dance?” The message was clear: he’s intrigued by the prospect of one more battle with Holloway.
“Last dance?” Poirier replied when a fan suggested a potential matchup with Holloway.
Dustin Poirier Open for Last Dance With Max Holloway
The two first met at UFC 143 in 2012, where Poirier secured a first-round submission victory. They squared off again seven years later at UFC 236, with the interim lightweight title on the line. In one of the division’s most exciting fights, Poirier claimed a unanimous decision victory after a hard-fought battle.
Meanwhile, Holloway’s career has mostly been at featherweight, where he became one of the division’s greatest fighters. But after his first knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 308, Holloway suggested that his time at featherweight could be coming to an end.
“Featherweight is probably done, honestly,” Holloway admitted, indicating a likely move up to lightweight.
Holloway recently captured the BMF title in a thrilling 155-pound showdown, delivering a last-second knockout of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. The win not only cemented his place as one of the sport’s toughest fighters but also reignited the possibility of a third fight with Poirier.
For fans, the idea of Poirier and Holloway sharing the octagon one last time, with the BMF title on the line, would be an exciting and fitting way to wrap up Poirier’s career. Their mutual respect has only grown over the years, and the chance to clash again—this time for the BMF belt—seems like a perfect chapter for both fighters.
