Over the weekend in Manchester, Paddy Pimblett delivered one of the standout performances of his UFC career. His impressive victory has drawn plenty of attention, and despite some scepticism from critics, former interim champion Dustin Poirier is not among them.
Pimblett, who recently broke into the lightweight top-15 rankings, secured his sixth consecutive win in the Octagon at UFC 304. He achieved this with a spectacular first-round triangle choke against a UFC veteran, Bobby Green, in Manchester.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Pimblett, as he has now entered the rankings and immediately set his sights on a new challenge. He is eager to face Brazilian fighter Renato Moicano next. Moicano is scheduled to compete against Benoit Saint-Denis in a five-round bout at UFC Fight Night Paris next month.
Dustin Poirier Praises Rising UK Star Paddy Pimblett Post UFC 304
On the other hand, Poirier is batting daily with his mind on a possible retirement from MMA. He said he would make a decision about his future in a months-time, following his recent defeat to Islam Makhachev via a fifth-round D’Arce choke at UFC 302.
Poirier has shared his thoughts on Pimblett’s rising star, particularly after Pimblett’s win over Green. Poirier believes that Pimblett is on an impressive path.
“He’s (Paddy Pimblett) another one of those guys whose trajectory is like if he keeps doing what he’s doing – he’s going to be – not that he’s not massive – but he’s on the right track,” Dustin Poirier told MMA Junkie.
“Dude, when you talk like that and people like your personality, and you go out there and finish guys, you know, vets and legends like Bobby,” Poirier added.
“Of course, going into the fight, I knew he could win, but to finish Bobby Green like that, I was very surprised,” Poirier continued. “He’s talking the talk, walking the walk, man.”
