UFC 300 is right around the corner, and because it is such a big card, many fighters want to be a part of it. There have been many rumours about Conor McGregor headlining the card. Yet, another iconic lightweight has said he wants to be a part of the monumental card. Dustin Poirier wants to have a third fight with Justin Gaethje. Poirier has made his intentions clear in the latest interview.
What’s Next For Dustin Poirier
Poirier has had a legendary career, which has held an interim championship. He has always been a famous fighter for the UFC. Yet, he became one of the biggest names in the company after two massive wins over McGregor. The American is coming off a loss to Gaethje, which means their rivalry is all even. In an interview with MMA Junkie, Poirier talks about what’s next.
“I’m keeping my weight low in case something happens. I’m super low right now; I’ve been like that for the last month. I don’t have any plans. If they call me with a name that’s exciting or makes sense, like the [Justin] Gaethje thing, that was one of those. I was waiting for something fun; we will see. When they call with that name, then I’ll do it.”
Who Will He Face And When Will It Be
Many dates would be available for the 34-year-old, but UFC 300 is ideal.
“I’m not going to be here at UFC 400. I’m 34 years old. So, it would be cool to make it on that UFC 300 card if I got the right opponent. It would be an exciting fight. I could fight before then. Who knows?”
It looks like there is only one name on Poirier’s mind which is Gaethje.
“I would take that, for sure. For sure, I would take that fight. [UFC] 300 would be a great card to do it on, but we will see. If I was in Justin’s shoes, if he’s guaranteed a title shot, you might not want to risk it. Yet, hey, this is fighting, people get antsy. We’ll see what happens, but I’m open to that.”
